This study is investigating the genetic basis of complex traits using the shape of the wing of the fruitfly as a model system. We will combine stat-of-the-art genomic techniques such as high throughput DNA sequencing, gene expression profiling using beadarrays, and advanced bioinformatic procedures to investigate the relationship between genetic and phenotypic variation. The experiments are designed with a systems biology framework in which large volumes of data are integrated to formulate testable hypotheses about the molecular basis of biological phenomena.
